Mark W. Rylander

Mark W. Rylander, 42, of Vernon, beloved son of William and Patti (Wells) Rylander of Vernon passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, May 6, 2018 at home. Mark was born on October 10, 1975 in Nantucket, MA and had been a resident of Vernon since 1978. He attended local schools and was a graduate of Rockville High School, Class of 1994. Mark earned a Bachelor's degree in Architectural Landscaping from the University of Connecticut in 1998. He was employed as a Landscape Designer for the Dept. of Transportation for the State of CT. He was a beloved father, son, and brother. Mark loved the outdoors and nature. His magnificent vegetable garden and manicured lawn were his pride and joy. His love for sports beginning as a child playing in Vernon's Little League and youth soccer programs was extended later in life as he shared his enthusiasm and love for children by coaching numerous youth baseball and soccer teams in Vernon. Mark was a passionate Red Sox and New England Patriots fan. He loved playing golf, fishing and playing washers and horseshoes with his dad, brother, family and friends. His greatest enjoyment though was just being a Dad to his son Evan. Sharing time and teaching Evan how to build things, garden, fish, golf and enjoy the outdoors were his strengths and fondest memories. In addition to his parents Mark is survived by his son Evan William Rylander of Vernon, his brother Scott Rylander and Sara of Keene, NH, his favorite uncle Robert "Buck" Rylander and his wife Judy of Longs, SC, his special uncle Ronald Wells and his wife Joyce of North Haven, CT, and his special aunt Judi Rylander Kenyon and her husband John of Houston, TX. He also leaves the mother of his child Christine Rylander of Vernon, numerous other aunts, uncles, cousins, and his special longtime childhood friend Glen Tager of Pennsylvania. Family and friends are welcome to attend a time of visitation at Holmes-Watkins Funeral Home, 400 Main St in Manchester on Friday, May 11, 2018 from 4-7 pm. Funeral services will be held at Second Congregational Church, 385 North Main St. Manchester, CT 06042 on Saturday, May 12, 2018 at 11 am. Private burial will be in East Cemetery, Manchester at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made in Mark's name to Vernon Little League or Vernon Youth Soccer.
