Mark Ruderman left us too soon on March 16, 2018, in Hartford, Connecticut.
Mark was born July 15, 1936, in Trenton, New Jersey, the third son of Goldie and Louis Ruderman. After graduating from Franklin and Marshall College in just three years, he followed his brothers into the medical profession. He attended medical school at Hahnemann University in Philadelphia, then interned at The University of Miami, followed by residency at Hahnemann. Mark completed a rheumatology fellowship at Massachusetts General Hospital, after which he joined Rheumatology Associates at Hartford Hospital as a partner, where he practiced until 2008. He was chief of the Division of Rheumatology at Hartford Hospital for many years.
Mark was a devoted and highly respected physician, with patients who followed him for many years. He was widely known as an astute and compassionate clinician, and he remained at the cutting edge of his specialty until his retirement.
Mark is survived by his loving wife, Althea; his children, Eric and his wife Stacey Empson, and Lisa and her husband Bernard Chen, and their mother Barbara; his beloved grandchildren Lucy, Jason, Michael, Adam, and Nora; and countless nieces and nephews who adored him.
Mark was preceded in death by his two brothers, Armand and Joe. The three brothers had an inseparable bond that took them around the country and around the world. Family gatherings were always peppered with recollections of their antics and practical jokes. Mark had a zest for life, and he had countless friends, with whom he enjoyed golfing, skiing, and their book club, which often seemed to be an excuse to gather together and regale each other with tall tales. Mark had a great love for the outdoors. In his retirement, he and Althea could frequently be found hiking the trails with their dog Sadie.
Mark will be deeply missed by all who knew him and cherished his love and his friendship.
