Marion L. (Jeannotte) Powers, 93, passed away July 1st, following a long period of declining health. She was able to remain in her home due to the efforts of her children and her wonderful caregivers, Sandra and Ruth. She will be mourned by her children-- Margaret Houde of Avon CT; Patricia Starfield of Wayland MA; John Powers of Los Angeles; Thomas Powers of Colorado; James Powers of Morris Township NJ as well as her six grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
Marion grew up on a farm in Rockingham, VT and often spoke of that special experience as well as the hardships of the Great Depression. She always kept a special place in her heart for Vermont even after she moved to Manchester in 1952.
Taking care of her home and raising her children was the focus of her life thereafter. She enjoyed the time spent around the kitchen table serving home cooked meals with a ladle of life experience to her children.
When her children were grown, Marion realized her dream of becoming a nurse. Her patients were elderly and suffering from the same maladies that she would later. She proved to be smart, strong, dependable, and compassionate. She loved this work. She was also proud to have served on a Federal Grand Jury after she retired.
She will be missed, but is free at last. There will be a gathering on July 12th at 11am at Holmes-Watkins Funeral Home, 400 Main Street, Manchester, CT, with burial to follow at East Cemetery for noon, located at Harrison Street.
