Marion Charlotte Jackson

May 12, 1917 — April 6, 2018

The spirit of Marion Charlotte (Hanson) Jackson left her body on April 6, 2018 after nearly 101 years. Born on May 12, 1917 in Malden, MA. to Eva and Gottfried Hanson, Marion married Joseph James Jackson in 1943. He predeceased her in 2006 after 63 years of marriage. Together they raised four children.

Marion was a graduate of Burdett College of Business in Boston and subsequently worked in a secretarial position in which she loved at W. J. Connell Co. where she met her husband. Always a woman ahead of her time, she pursued her passion of wood working, creating beautiful furniture, before it was seemly for a woman to do so.

Continuing to follow her passions, she learned to snow ski in her late 50's, tended her flower garden, walked daily and tried to right the wrongs of the world by writing letters to those who should make a difference. She loved life and people, and people were drawn to her positive attitude and joy for living. She was always interested in what would happen next. She loved flowers, chocolate, her Red Sox, playing Setback and Bingo, watching Jeopardy, writing nearly daily emails detailing the happenings of her day, coasting down the driveway in her wheelchair (to the horror of all), but most of all she loved her friends and family. Marion was a joy to know and will be missed by many.

She was predeceased by her 5 brothers: Harold, Robert, Richard, Leonard, Wilbert Hanson, and her sister Mabel Eriksson. She is survived by her children Nancy E. Sava (Robert Sava), Judith J. Petry (Bennet M Petry), Peter J. Jackson, and James H. Jackson (Robin Jackson), by 6 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren and by many nieces and nephews.

Marion and her family are most grateful for the extraordinarily kind and loving care she received from so many special people at Manchester Manor and Brookdale of Woodbridge over the last years of her life, and for the steady stream of friends and caregivers who came to say goodbye in her final few days.

Calling Hours will be held at Holmes-Watkins Funeral Home, 400 Main St., Manchester, Ct. on Thursday, April 12, 2018 between the hours of 4:00-6:00PM with a short blessing and memorial following.
