Mario "Moe" Corso, 96, of Cromwell, entered into eternal rest on Friday, January 10, 2025, at Autumn Lake Healthcare in Cromwell. Born in Hartford, son of the late Charles and Margaret (Cecchini) Corso, he had been a CT resident most of his life in the Hartford area. He also resided in California in 1992 then moved to Clearwater, FL from 1997 to 2012.
At 18 years of age, Mario enlisted in the Army and served in the 11th Airborne Division in Japan. He earned parachute and glider badges, a WWII victory medal and an occupational medal.
After the military, he held employment at Veeder-Root Company, The Hartford Rayon Corp and Y Smith Company and also drove part-time for Yellow Cab Co. along with his brothers Bill and Joe. Mario's last career was with the United States Postal Service. An animal lover, he always had dog biscuits for every dog on his route. He retired from the USPS in 1989 after 30 years.
In his younger years, Mario loved going to the horse racetrack and enjoyed the theater especially The Bushnell. He volunteered as a stagehand at the Jane Hart School of Ballet in Hartford. He was a very active member of Mount Carmel Church of East Hartford as well as the Italian Club in Hartford. He picked up the hobby of running later in life, completing his first marathon at age 50. His favorite race was the Thanksgiving Day Manchester Road Race which he participated in for dozens of years. Mario led a healthy, active lifestyle and spent a lot of time in the gym.
In his senior years, he continued to enjoy the treadmill and watching old movies on TCM. He frequently listened to the rat pack, Italian music and Pavarotti. Mario enjoyed watching sports of all kinds. He was a long-time Yankees fan and followed tennis closely. We could always count on Mario showing up for Sunday dinner with either a chocolate cream pie or Italian pastries in hand. Although he cooked at home, Mario really loved to eat out with his best friend and family.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers Philip, John, Joseph, William and Mario (his namesake) who died tragically as a child, as well as his sister Mary Campanele.
Mario is survived by his daughters Marietta Capobianco and Andrea Baldwin, his sister Loretta Paszek, sisters-in-law Blanche and Marie, and his best friend Leo Luciani. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, three grandchildren and one great-grandchild as well as spouses of the survivors and those who have been a part of the Corso family traditions. We will remember Mario for his many talents and gifts which he generously shared with all of us, as well as his tremendous ability to carry on a lively conversation about virtually any topic.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a service on Friday, January 17, 2025 at 10:30am at the Holmes-Watkins Funeral Home, 400 Main Street, Manchester CT. In lieu of flowers, we would appreciate donations in memory of Mario to the Wounded Warrior Project.
