Marilyn R. (McKay) Carlson Townsend, 74, of Vernon, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 12, 2016 and will be deeply missed by her family. Marilyn was born on October 2, 1941 in Hartford daughter of the late George D. and Gertrude (Bensche) McKay. She was predeceased by her loving husband Wayne "Bud" Carlson at the young age of 27. She was a 1962 graduate of the Hartford Hospital School of Nursing and began her career as a Registered Nurse at Hartford Hospital. After raising her children she returned to the workforce caring for the residents of Crestfield/Fenwood Rehabilitation Center in Manchester for over 25 years until her retirement in 2006. Marilyn was a sweet, quiet and caring person who also had a love for animals and took in and nurtured many strays over the years. She enjoyed doing all kinds of puzzles, bargain shopping, playing games on her kindle, and most of all loved spending time with her beloved children and grandchildren. She is survived by her four children; Lorie Richard and her husband William of Dade City, FL, Wayne Carlson Jr. and his wife Katie of Indianapolis, Indiana, Sheryl DeRosa and her husband John of Coventry, and John Townsend and his wife Jessica of Manchester, her brother George McKay and his wife Linda of Portland, CT, her ten loving grandchildren; Jaimie, Jason, Carli, Autumn, Kurt, Jackie, Reagan, Nicholas, Troy and Levi, her two great-grandchildren, Bryon and Brandan, several nieces, nephews and many good friends and family. Funeral services will be private.
