Marilyn Kathryn (Wupperfeld) Kudra, age 86, passed away peacefully while seated in her favorite chair at her home in Ellington with Bob (Robert), her husband of 64 years, at her side. Daughter of Margaret and Paul Wupperfeld, Marilyn was born in Norwalk and raised in Manchester, Connecticut. In addition to her husband, she is survived by three sons: Paul Kudra and his wife Pam of Glastonbury, Kenneth Kudra and his wife Christine of Broadbrook, and Robert J Kudra of Albany New York. The family is indebted to Pam Kudra for the loving care she took of Marilyn, especially in these last months. Marilyn is also survived by eight grandchildren: Sara, Randal, Zakary, Dakota, Joshua, Jacob, Erik and Ian, two sisters: Patricia Morrison of New Haven and Paula O'Hare of Milford, Massachusetts, and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sister Eleanor.
Marilyn earned a Bachelor of Arts degree and a Master of Arts degree from Central Connecticut State College and was a member of Phi Delta Kappa education fraternity. She had known from the age of three that she was called to be a teacher and was a dedicated teacher in Manchester and Vernon. She was devoted to keeping the magic of learning in children's lives, and that spark never left her eyes her entire life. She was a gifted artist, a published poet and a committed crafter. She enjoyed quilting, stamping and card making and delighted in sharing her expertise with anyone through craft classes she taught at Enfield Senior Center, or visits with her at her home, or anywhere that had a flat surface and room for paste and scissors.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Holmes Watkins Funeral Home. There are no calling hours. There will be a funeral mass at 11 a.m. at Holmes Watkins Funeral Home, 400 Main Street, in Manchester. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude's Hospital.
