Marie D. Miller

August 21, 1929 — October 21, 2016

Marie (Darby) Miller, 87, died Friday, October 21, 2016 at Manchester Manor in Manchester, CT, surrounded by loving family and friends, twelve years to the date and time of her husband's death, the late Howard A. Miller.
She was born in Mt. Vernon, Missouri on August 21, 1929, one of nine children to the late Joseph and Virginia (Carini) Darby. As a baby, she moved to CT with her family and grew up during the depression in Cotton Hollow, South Glastonbury, and graduated from Glastonbury High School in 1948. Marie married Howard Albert Miller from Manchester and was a homemaker for 55 years. They had three daughters, and she spent her last nine years living with her daughter, Kristine, in South Windsor.
Marie enjoyed cooking and loved to try out and pass on new recipes. She is remembered amongst her extended family and friends for all her delicious meals, and especially for her pies with the flakiest of crusts. She was a bird watcher, a quilter, an avid reader and she loved to garden. She also loved to arrange big bouquets of fresh flowers from her garden. She was bright, cheerful, and enthusiastic about learning something new every day and loved to travel. She was always quick with a quote or an old saying such as one of her favorites, "waste not, want not".
She is survived by her daughters, Kathleen Miller of Bangor, Maine, Kimberly Pitcher and her husband, Bill, of St. David's, Bermuda, and Kristine 'Tina' Miller of South Windsor; her grandchildren, Maryanne Yvon and her husband Richard of Bradford, Maine, Andrew Poisson and his fianc, Karen Turley of Syracuse, Utah, and Howard Pitcher and his wife Michelle of St. David's, Bermuda; her great-grandchildren, Annarose and Amanda Yvon of Bradford, Maine, and Noah Poisson and Erik Turley-Smart of Syracuse, Utah; her brothers George Darby and his wife Paula of Manchester, William Darby and his wife Matilda of East Glastonbury, and James Darby and his wife Vicky of East Lyme; many dear nieces and nephews too numerous to mention, and her special friends, Phyllis and Peter Draghi of South Windsor.
Beside her husband she was predeceased by her brothers Joseph, Jack and Earl Darby, and by her sisters Alice Tewksbury and Margaret Roman.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, October 29, at 11:00 AM at the Watkins Funeral Home, 142 East Center Street, Manchester. Family and friends may call at the funeral home Saturday from 10:00 AM until the time of the service.
