Marian B. Wasserman

January 29, 1920 — October 4, 2015

Marian Benjamin Wasserman, of Wethersfield, formerly of Manchester, died peacefully at home surrounded by her family on October 4, 2015 at the age of 95. Marian was born January 28 or 29, 1920 in New Britain. She was the youngest child of David Sargis Benjamin and Josephine Benjamin, Assyrian Christians who immigrated to the United States from Persia in approximately 1900. Marian graduated from New Britain High School in January 1937. She went to Cambridge Secretarial School and worked in Hartford as an executive assistant at Hartford National Bank from 1941 to 1946. Marian was married to Frank Wasserman from 1946 until his death in 1992. Borrowing from the old line, Marian and Frank frequently joked that they had been happily married for nearly 40 years - and that 40 out of 46 wasn't all that bad. Together they owned and successfully ran a small business in Manchester from 1957 to 1979. Marian was predeceased by, in addition to Frank, her siblings, Abeshag Benjamin, Albert Benjamin, and Margaret Benjamin Stone. She also was predeceased by Marian's and Frank's dearest friend Millie Bennett and by Frank's younger brother Larry Wasserman, with whom Marian was always very close. Marian was a member of the Church of the Living God from 1976 until her death. She was always very pleased and proud to have been part of the group that helped build the Manchester church. Marian was a loving and devoted mother and grandmother and will be greatly missed. She is survived by her sons Bob Wasserman and Rich Wasserman; her daughter-in-law Cindy Wasserman (who was as close to Marian as any daughter could be); and her grandchildren, whom she adored - Kate Wasserman, Ben Wasserman and his wife Victoria Wasserman, and Karen Zahradnik and her husband Mike Zahradnik. Rich, Cindy, and their children thank Bob for the many years of extraordinary care that he gave Mom. Marian was very fond of - and also is survived by - sisters-in-law Beatrice Gold and Susan Wasserman and cousins-in-law Sam and Shirley Pasco. She also is survived by several other cousins and several nieces and nephews. Marian had several very kind and loyal friends - Susan Duflo, Marsha Mullen, and Pastor Dave Mullen deserve special mention. Marian's family will be forever grateful to the caregivers - including those from Hartford Healthcare at Home and the HOPE Team - who, along with Bob, made it possible for Marian to realize her wish to spend her final years in her own home. The family would especially like to thank Nikki Brown, Tonya Brown, Sheri Isaac, Maria Matos, Mavis Odonkor, Barbara Pellet, Donna Russell, Ebony Tolson, Dau Vu, and Ana Yacone. On Saturday, October 10, 2015 Marian's family will receive family and friends from 10 to 11 AM at The Church of the Living God, 199 Deming Street, Manchester. A service will immediately follow at the church, followed by burial at East Cemetery, Manchester. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Church of the Living God, 199 Deming Street, Manchester, CT 06042, or Hartford Healthcare at Home, 1290 Silas Deane Highway, Suite 4B, Wethersfield, CT 06109.
