Maria Scholtz

Maria (Ulbrich) Scholtz, 94, formerly of Manchester, widow of John Scholtz, passed away peacefully on Friday, February 20, 2015 at The Village at Buckland Court in South Windsor CT.
She was born in Bierbrunn, Slovakia on February 28, 1920, daughter of the late Michael and Maria (Galgon) Ulbrich, immigrated to the United States in 1951, and had been a resident of Manchester before moving to the assisted living facility in South Windsor in 2010. Maria worked at the former Cheney Mills in Manchester as a weaver and retired as a loom fixer after thirty four years of service. She was a longtime member of the Zion Lutheran Church.
She spent many hours crocheting beautiful doilies and pillows for her family. She also loved cooking and baking for friends and family. She is survived by her son and daughter, Walter Scholtz and his wife Ilse of Tolland, Gisela Field of Vernon, and her daughter-in-law, Joan Scholtz of Vernon; five grandchildren, Monica Pacheco, Diane Madigan, Gisela Carlson, Katherine Scholtz and Robert Scholtz, and seven great-grandchildren. Besides her husband she was predeceased by her son, William Scholtz, her son-in-law, Robert Field, and a granddaughter, Kimberly Scholtz. We wish to thank the entire staff of The Village at Buckland Court for the affectionate and dedicated care Maria received during her long stay at the facility. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Feb. 25, at 11:00 AM at the Zion Lutheran Church, 112 Cooper Street, Manchester, with burial to follow in the East Cemetery in Manchester. Visiting hours are Tuesday from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Holmes Funeral Home, 400 Main Street, Manchester. Memorial contributions may be made to the Zion Lutheran Church Memorial Fund.
