Margaret L. Nielsen

Margaret L. "Peg" (Robinson) Nielsen, 101, of Manchester, loving and devoted wife of the late Karl A. Nielsen peacefully passed away at home on Monday, June 13, 2016. She was born on August 7, 1914 in Manchester daughter of the late John and Christina (McDowell) Robinson. Peg attended local schools, was a graduate of Manchester High School, Class of 1932, then working at The Connecticut Tobacco Growers and The Travelers Ins. Co. before being married in 1938. She was employed by the Town of Manchester for over twenty years working in the Tax Assessor's Office. She was always proud to say she was a lifelong resident of Manchester. Margaret was a devoted member of St. Mary's Episcopal Church and was involved in many organizations throughout her life including the Manchester Memorial Hospital Volunteers, Girls' Friendly Sponsors Society, St. Paul's Guild, Manchester Municipal Retirees Association, AARP, and the Manchester Senior Center. Over the years she enjoyed traveling, bowling, knitting, and had a real passion for card playing - only learning the game of Bridge at age 90. She is survived by her two children; Donald Nielsen and his wife Joyce of Bolton and Joanne Warren and her husband Bruce of Framingham, MA; her cherished granddaughter Katherine Cusson and her husband Donald of Ellington; her grandchildren; David Nielsen and his wife Stephanie of Manchester, Christine Watrous and her husband Scott of Virginia, Erik Nielsen and his wife Latisha of Manchester, Adam Nielsen and his wife Hendrianna of Manchester, Christine Witten and her husband Matt of New York, Kelly Drummy of MA, and Bruce Warren and his wife Elizabeth also of MA and Deborah Rucci of Enfield; her twenty one great-grandchildren; Kobe, Jacob, Drew, Luke, Karma, Quincy Grace, Jonah, Katie, Jayma, Makeyla, Carl, Olivia, Jacob, Harrison, Noel, Jessie, Jamie, Jenna, Jordan, John and Michael; and two great-great-grandchildren Chase and Camryn; Among other relatives she also leaves two special nieces; Audrey and Carolyn and some very special lady friends remembering particularly Madeline and Peg. In addition to her husband and parents Margaret was predeceased by her son; Richard Karl Nielsen Sr. and a grandson; Richard Karl Nielsen Jr. Calling hours will be held on Thursday, June 16, 2016 from 5-8 pm at Holmes Funeral Home, 400 Main St. Manchester. Funeral services will be celebrated on Friday, June 17, 2016 at 11:30am in St. Mary's Episcopal Church, 41 Park St. Manchester. Burial will follow in East Cemetery, Manchester.
