Margaret A. (Piercy) Mayer, 83, of Vernon and formerly of Manchester, otherwise known as 'Peggy' or 'Granny' passed away peacefully on October 29th. Peggy was the mother of four children, Steve Mayer and his wife Cookie of Birmingham, AL, Tom Mayer of Vernon, Sue Thomas and her husband Adron of Windsor and was predeceased by John Mayer. Peggy was also the Grandmother of three, Lindsay Thomas and Carey Thomas both of Boston, MA and was sadly predeceased by the 'Little Prince' Justin Johnstone. Peggy was also one of eight sisters including Mildred Kos, Alice Tompkins, Leone Mattesen, Barbara Jones, Eleanor Bolduc, Janet Wilder and her husband Robin and Patricia Dougela who predeceased her and her "adopted brother" Stephen Lukas. She was also predeceased by her special friend Clarence (Slim) McConnell. She also leaves behind her friends Barbara Mayer, Margaret Peterson, Mike Dubiel, Jimmie Rogers and Donna Pecor. With seven sisters, there are many many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews that Peggy leaves behind. Peggy enjoyed spending time with her family, baking for all, especially around Christmas, watching UConn Woman's basketball, Duck Pin bowling, reading books, doing crossword puzzles and she loved NASCAR, more specifically with her beloved Jeff Gordon and her memory of four 'hot laps' around Lime Rock race track with Jeff behind the wheel of his prototype Z28, what a ride! The family will have calling hours at Holmes Funeral Home, 400 Main St, in Manchester on Saturday October 31st from 4 - 6 PM. Per her wishes, Peggy will be cremated and her ashes spread at the location of her choice. Considering Peggy's love for cats, the family wishes that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in her memory to Feral Cats of East Windsor, PO Box 198, East Windsor CT 06088.
