Margaret E. Fish

Margaret E. Fish, 99, of Manchester, joined her Lord peacefully on Tuesday, October 9, 2018, at her home, with the loving assistance of her long-time care giver Margaret Deprato. She was born in the same home on May 11, 1919, to the late Milton and Edna (Edgerton) Fish and proudly remained there her entire life. After her father passed, she stayed with her mother operating a greeting card business utilizing Edna's tatting expertise and her own drawing skills.
Margaret's faithfulness in all she did was best exemplified by her devotion to God and the Manchester Church of the Nazarene, religiously driving herself well into her 90's until frail health made it impossible.
She reluctantly retired from Cheney Brothers in 1984 when they left town holding their record for continuous employment at 48 years. She was an avid contest entrant and her unique combination of intellect, curiosity and a keen wit led to literally hundreds of wins including the Journal Inquirer Limerick Contest on multiple occasions and the top prize in the popular show "What in the World" 15 times between 1960 and 1973. All meticulously recorded and filed complete with prize money received.
A steamship to Europe in 1950, five Hawaiian Islands and a trip to the Bahamas won as a prize were some of her many treasured travels. Margaret also loved her friends, enjoying many pen pals including Mary Lou Roe and Yvette Rouill, with whom she exchanged French/English letters for over 75 years. Margaret's kind and caring personality will be missed by many especially her loving cousins who were able to spend many enriching years with her.
A time of visitation for Margaret will be held on Tuesday, October 16, 2018, from 10 - 11 AM at Holmes-Watkins Funeral Home, 400 Main Street, Manchester with a funeral service to begin at 11 AM. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery, Rockville. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Margaret's name to the Cornerstone Christian School, 236 Main St., Manchester, CT 06042.
