Louise W. Gothberg, 86, formerly of Enfield, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 4, at Evergreen Healthcare Center of Stafford, CT. She was born in Windsor, Vermont on July 14, 1937 to parents Nellie and Russell Washburne.
In the late 1950s, Louise relocated to Connecticut and embraced the challenges of being a single mother with grace and determination. Through her various roles as a head bank teller, a bulk route driver for the Hartford Courant, an Emery courier, and a Consolidated Freight truck driver, Louise exemplified a strong work ethic and unwavering resolve. Her tenacity not only provided for her family but also set an inspiring example for her children.
Family was the cornerstone of Louise's life. She is survived by her devoted brother, Mark Washburne, and her loving sister, Grace Farnum. Louise was a proud mother to her five children, Carl Gothberg, daughter-in-law April Gothberg, Caren Gothberg, Lana Gothberg, Cal Gothberg, and Sheila Gothberg. She was a doting grandmother to ten grandchildren, and despite the sorrow of outliving one grandson, she found great joy and laughter in the presence of her six great-grandchildren. Louise's legacy is carried on through the lives of her children and the generations that follow.
Her family extends heartfelt gratitude to the many nurses and staff members who provided exceptional care to Louise at Valerie Manor and Evergreen Healthcare. The warmth and compassion they showed during her final days were a great comfort to her and her loved ones.
A Memorial Service will be held at Holmes Watkins Funeral Home (400 Main Street, Manchester CT) on Tuesday, July 30th from 9am till 10am, with a Burial to follow at Silver Lane Cemetery (1280 Silver Lane, East Hartford, CT). To leave an online condolence please visit
