Louis C. Kocsis Jr, 92 of Manchester, CT, formerly of Roebling, NJ, loving husband
for thirty eight years of Jean Hannay (McCann) Kocsis, died Tuesday, March 14, 2017 at a local convalescent home after a long illness.
Lou was born in Roebling on May 23, 1924, son of Louis C. and Elizabeth (Chaty) Kocsis. He attended local schools and was a graduate of Rider College in Trenton, NJ. Before moving to Manchester in 1978 Lou was an active member of the local Republican Party, a member of American Legion Post 3, V.F.W. Post 8838, and the Roebling Historical Society.
He served in the US Navy during World War II and was especially proud of receiving a Letter of Commendation from Admiral J.M. Borda for his actions in saving the personnel and health records from the sinking Minesweeper USS YMS 14 after it was struck by another ship.
While residing in Manchester Lou owned Lincoln Business Services for seventeen years before retiring. He was a member of Masonic Lodge #73, V.F.W. Post 2046, Manchester Historical Society, Manchester Senior Citizens Golf League, and the Beethoven Mens Chorus. He was a member of the Manchester Republican Town Committee and a member of the South United Methodist Church.
With his wife Jean, he is survived by a son and daughter, Louis C. Kocsis III and his wife Deborah of Roebling, NJ, and Linda Anderson of Florence, NJ; two step-daughters, Cynthia Anderson and her husband Michael of Hebron, CT, and Rodean Gyokeri and her husband Miklos of Coventry, CT; eight grandchildren, Brian Anderson and his wife Erin of Coventry, Debra Anderson of Boston, MA, CW2 Joseph Gyokeri US Army of Coventry, Corrine Kocsis, Jill Kocsis, and David Kocsis, all of Roebling, NJ, Lisa Buchanan of Windsor Locks, CT and Jefferi Gyokeri of Buckeye, AZ; three great-grandchildren, Samantha and Alexandra Anderson of Coventry and Tifani Buchanan of Windsor Locks; and his nephew, Robert Lane and his wife Carol of Roebling, NJ. Lou was predeceased by his former wife, Margaret (Csocsan) Kocsis, a step-son, Dana Allan McCann, and his sister, Bertha Ryan.
His family wishes to thank the Crestfield Rehabilitation Center Wing 4 staff for their compassionate care of Lou.
His funeral service will be held Tuesday, March 21, at 11:00 AM at South United Methodist Church, 1226 Main Street, Manchester. Burial with military honors, at a later date, will be in the East Cemetery in Manchester. Visiting hours for family and friends are Monday, Mar. 20, from 4 PM to 7 PM at the Holmes Funeral Home, 400 Main Street, Manchester with a Masonic service at 6:30 PM.
