Lillian E. Burnett

Lillian E. (Benoit) Burnett, 90, of Manchester, beloved wife of the late Harold R. "Hal" Burnett, died peacefully, Thursday February 4, 2016 at her home with her family at her side. Lillian was born September 30, 1925 in Springfield, MA., daughter of the late Oliver & Cecilia (Balfe) Benoit and came to Manchester as a young girl in 1937. She was a Manchester High School Graduate with the Class of 1945 and served as class Secretary and Treasurer. During her high school years, Lillian went to Hartford on Saturday's to sing on the Bob Steele Show. Lillian had worked at Pratt & Whitney Aircraft and the Travelers Insurance Co. before marrying Hal on November 16, 1946, they were married for 60 years. She worked for many years with Hal as secretary for Capitol Equipment Co. in Manchester. She and Hal spent their summers in Harwichport on Cape Cod and their winters in Naples and Englewood Florida and enjoyed being on the boat or shelling the beaches at both places. They also enjoyed the Caribbean Cruises, especially the Panama Canal. She was a member of the Red Hat Society, member and past President of the Alameda Isles Women's Club both of Englewood. Locally, Lillian was a member and past President of the Manchester Emblem Club, in the 1950's she was one of the first volunteers when M.A.R.C. Inc was established, she looked forward to and really enjoyed playing cards on Wednesday's with "The Girls". Lillian is survived by three loving daughters, Leslie Backbom and her husband Eric of Manchester, Patricia Yuscanitch of Melbourne, FL. and Halene Fujimoto and her husband Roger of Vernon, she also leaves seven grandchildren, Paul Bycholski and his companion Maureen Mattern, Lisa Appell and her husband Tad, Ian Burnett and his wife Karissa, Daniel Burnett-Pollock and his wife Alyssa Skewes, Sadie Lisowski and her husband Nick, Ryan Fujimoto and Marissa Fujimoto, eight great grandchildren, Stephen, Adam, Alyssa, Joshua, Evan, Ashley, Dominic and Owen. Other survivors include her brother, Tom Benoit and his wife Carol of Punta Gorda, FL. and Margaret Tracy of Zellwood, FL. and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her beloved Hal, she was predeceased by her son Harold R. Burnett Jr. and two sons-in-law David Pollock and Michael Yuscanitch. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Mary Keeney and the staff at the Vernon VNA and to Roxanne Gill and Arlene Wright, her caregivers for the wonderful care shown to Lillian. Funeral services will be held Saturday February 13, 2016 at 10:30 AM at the Holmes Funeral Home, 400 Main St., Manchester. Burial will be in St. James Cemetery. Calling hours will be held Friday from 4 - 7 PM at the funeral home.
