Lillian (Howland) Baker
It is with sadness and joy that we announce that Lillian has slipped the surly bonds of earth on this date February 5, 2016 and now dances the skies on laughter-silvered wings. She was born the daughter of Oscar and Emma (Ricks) Howland on McDaniel Mtn., in Shady, New York on April 7, 1920. Her free spirited nature brought many an adventure into her life. She was always searching for the elusive whatever. With seventeen siblings life was exciting and fast paced. At 16 she left the mountain for Brooklyn to learn the art of hairdressing, from there she connected with others and held various positions.
Lillian eventually settled in CT and worked at Pratt & Whitney during the war. She had a young family to care for. Next stop Manchester where she raised her children and had two more sons. She took a position in the office with Iona Mfg. and stayed ten years.
With the children grown the adventure bug struck again and off to Florida she went, setting up an at home beauty service, when she tired of that she took up cake decorating for a large food chain and was a caregiver for the elderly in her neighborhood. She kept at it until retirement at age 80. At age 90, Lillian decided to come back to Manchester and let her daughter look after her. She wasn't happy about leaving the sunshine behind!
She loved to travel, especially to HI and any of the Caribbean islands. She spent her 75th birthday at the Hard Rock Caf in London, with the staff singing Happy Birthday to her. Nova Scotia was the last cruise in 2015, what a glorious time that was.
Lillian leaves her sons Edward Daub and wife Diana of Palmdale, CA., Duane Moore and wife Shari of Pensacola, FL., Robert Daub of Willington, Richard Daub and wife Janet of Manchester, Jeffrey Twerdy and his wife Kim of McKinney, TX., and her daughter Patricia (Daub) Lewis of Manchester.
She also leaves her Grandchildren Rob Daub (wife Judith) of Tennessee, Justin Twerdy, and Jon Daub (wife Tanya) and her Great Grands, Jonathan Daub, Autumn Lynn Daub and Alex Daub. She was predeceased by her Grandson Benjamin Daub. She also leaves one sister, Mardell Maier of Kingston, NY, and many nieces and nephews and her darling fur baby Casey who stayed with her to comfort her.
Per Lillian's request there will be no services. She wants you to follow your dreams, be kind to one another and perform a random act of kindness. Donations in her name can be made to Our Companions Animal Rescue, P.O. Box 956, Manchester, Ct 06045 or Disabled American Veterans, PO Box 14301, Cincinnati, OH 45250-0301.
