Leslie L. Block, 89, of Manchester, formerly of East Hartford & South Windsor, beloved husband of the late Delia (Parson) Block died peacefully, on Monday, December 4, 2017 with his family by his side. He was born on June 23, 1928 in Carlton, NJ, son of the late Leonard and Sarah Block. Les was a proud veteran of the US Navy proudly serving his country during WW II. Prior to his retirement in 1991, he was employed as a machinist with Pratt & Whitney Aircraft for over 38 years.
Les was an avid ten pin bowler and competed in several leagues at Silver Lanes in East Hartford. He enjoyed playing the organ which he took up after retirement. Les also liked playing horseshoes and gardening.
He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law Brian and Joanne Block of Windham, two loving grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; Laura (Block) McCarthy and her children; Haley and Dayton all of Windham and Steven Block and Alyssa Korten of New Hartford, his sister Lois Tasenti of New Jersey and several nieces, nephews and their families. In addition to his wife and parents he was predeceased by his two brothers; Leonard and Raymond.
A graveside service with military honors will be held on Tuesday, December 12, 2017 at 1:00 pm in (Section A Westminster) of East Cemetery, 240 East Center St. in Manchester. There are no calling hours. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or to the American Diabetes Association.
