Lawrence "Larry" Galligan, 82, of Manchester, loving husband of 58 years of Judith (Whitehead) Galligan died suddenly at home on Friday, April 17, 2015. He was born on January 25, 1933 in New Bedford, MA son of the late Eugene and Doris Galligan. He has been a resident of Manchester since 1964. Larry was a Corporal in the US. Army serving in Germany as a helicopter mechanic during the Korean War. He began his working career as a mechanic at Pratt & Whitney Aircraft and later was employed for over 25 years as a carpenter for Union Local #43. More recently he was employed in the maintenance department at Manchester Community College until his retirement in 1997. Larry was a former member of American Legion Post #102 and the Army & Navy Club of Manchester. Larry was very proud of his Irish heritage and was well known for his storytelling and sense of humor. He enjoyed spending his winters in Florida and loved to listen to country and gospel music. Larry was an avid fan of the Red Sox and UConn basketball. He thoroughly enjoyed his daily coffee with his friends at the Big Y. He was a talented man who could fix anything and will be deeply missed by all that knew him. In addition to his wife Judy, he is survived by his two sons; Michael Galligan and Craig (Lynn) Galligan, his three daughters; Lori (Ernest) Demko, Debra (Craig) Woodward and Karin (John) Schrift , seven grandchildren: Eric and Brianna Demko, Patrick, Alex and Jillian Woodward and Julianna and Jacob Schrift. His two sisters; Sue (Robert) Price and Anne (Herman) Cloukey, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other loved ones and many good friends. In addition to his parents Larry was predeceased by two sisters, Margaret Galligan and Elizabeth Pepin and his two brothers, Eugene and Edward Galligan. A memorial service will be celebrated on Friday, April 24, 2015 at 12:00 pm at North United Methodist Church, 300 Parker St. Manchester. There are no calling hours. Burial with military honors will be in the Bourne National Cemetery at a later date.
