Laura Granville Lang, age 73, of Vernon, Connecticut passed away at Hartford Hospital on Saturday, October 6, 2018.
She is preceded in death by her husband Donald Lang and by her parents Edward Granville and Charlotte Davis Granville of New Hampshire. She is survived by her daughter Hilary Lang of Connecticut; daughter Erin Lang Crowley and her husband David; and their children Hermione and Langston Crowley of New Hampshire; as well as her sister Chris Granville Graves of Maine.
Laura grew up in Vernon and spent summers at Silver Lake in Madison, NH. She loved reading, horseback riding, and water skiing. She graduated from Rockville High School in 1963 and from Wheaton College in 1967. While interning at Pratt and Whitney, she met the love of her life Donald Lang, whom she married in 1968. Laura's passions were her children, music, floral design, and art. She was actively involved in her daughters' upbringing, serving as Girl Scout leader, school computer specialist, founding organizer of the Rockville Festival of Bands, and an active member of the PTA. Music was a central theme in her life. She was a member of the Vernon Chorale since its inception in 1980 and performed with the Eastern Connecticut Symphony Chorale for over a decade. She was passionately creative, which she expressed through her colorful floral design, intricately themed Christmas decorations, and extraordinarily detailed fine art including pastel and water color paintings, some of which were exhibited in juried art shows. Later in life she became interested in the history and environmental preservation of the town of Madison and the lake that became her second home.
A memorial service celebrating her life will be held at 6:30PM on Thursday, October 11, 2018 at the First Congregational Church (695 Hartford Turnpike, Vernon, CT).
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Vernon Chorale (P.O. Box 664, Vernon, CT 06066) or the Silver Lake Association of Madison (P.O. Box 224, Silver Lake, NH 03875).
