Kenneth E. Woods

Kenneth E. "Kenny" Woods, 72, a lifelong resident of Manchester, peacefully passed away on Thursday, June 29, 2017 at home. Ken was born on January 24, 1945 in Manchester, beloved son of the late Thomas J. and Florence (Glenney) Woods. He was raised in Manchester, attended local schools and was a graduate of Manchester High School, Class of 1963.
Ken's long musical career began at the age of five when he was accepted as a pupil of Dr. Moshe Paranov, the founder of the Hartt School of Music at the University of Hartford. This was the beginning of Kenny's music education at both the University of Hartford and the University of Connecticut, which resulted in his career as a private teacher of organ, piano, string instruments and voice. He has played cello with orchestras and string groups. He has been a church organist and choirmaster for most of his career and had a special talent for improvisation. Earlier in his career, Kenny was Organist and Choir Director at St. Mary's Episcopal Church, Manchester CT, and for the last thirty years he was organist and Music Director at Trinity Episcopal Church in Collinsville CT. Kenny lived out his faith every day of his life. He generously shared his God-given creative talents to bring joy to scores of people, made us laugh with his wonderful sense of humor and infectious laugh, and radiated his love of life with his winning Irish smile.
He is survived by his two brothers: Thomas E. Woods of Manchester with whom he made his home, and Donald R. Woods and his wife Jeannie also of Manchester; two nephews, Brian Woods and his spouse Courtney, and Jeffrey Woods and his spouse Stephanie and their families; his niece Emily Woods; several cousins, many musical and spiritual colleagues and a host of dear friends. In addition to his parents Kenny was predeceased by his longtime friend The Rev. Canon Clinton R. Jones.
Calling hours will be held at Holmes Funeral Home, 400 Main St. Manchester, CT 06040 on Friday, July 7, 2017 from 4-7 pm. Funeral services will be celebrated at Christ Church Cathedral, 45 Church St. Hartford, CT 06103 on Saturday, July 8, 2017 at 10:30 am. Burial will be in (Section L Westminster) of East Cemetery, 240 East Center St, Manchester, CT 06040 on Monday, July 10, 2017 at 10 am. Memorial contributions may be made to the Christ Church Cathedral or to Trinity Episcopal Church, 55 River Road, Collinsville, CT 06019.
