Kenneth Richard Jones, 85, of Manchester died peacefully on Thursday, December 18, 2014 at the Hospital for Special Care in New Britain. Kenny was born December 8, 1929 in Manchester son of the late Norman B. and Ethel (Hughes) Jones. Kenny was married for over 50 years to his wife Anne (Smyth) Jones who predeceased him in 2004. He was employed with the Manchester Housing Authority until his retirement in 1993. Kenny was a member of the Washington Social Club and Orange Lodge #117. He was a member of the British-American Club for over 60 years where he was a great cribbage player. Kenny was a volunteer for the Town of Manchester Fire Dept, Co. #4. He was a member of B.P.O.E # 1893, Manchester Lodge #73 A.F. & A.M., the Valley of Hartford Scottish Rite and the Melha Shriners. His true passion was playing the bagpipes. Kenny was a piper for many years in the Manchester Pipe Band and the Stewart Highlanders before becoming the Pipe Major for the Sphinx Highlanders for over 30 years. He played his pipes for many weddings and numerous celebrations. He is survived by his three sons; Norman K. Jones and his wife Deborah, Kenneth A. Jones and Scott D. Jones and his wife, Otilia all of Manchester, his sister Hazel Turkington of South Windsor, three grandsons; Ryan, Jeffrey and Kyle Jones all of Manchester, two granddaughters; Cecilia Prytko and her husband Chris of Tolland and Cintia Vicente of Manchester, two great-grandchildren; Karolina and Julian Prytko of Tolland, several nieces and nephews and his cousin, Matt Ramsey of Florida. Kenny's family would like to thank his doctor and true friend, Dr. Hazar Dahhan as well as the doctors, nurses and staff of St. Francis Hospital and the Hospital for Special Care for their kind and compassionate care. Calling hours will be held on Sunday, December 21, 2014 from 5-8 pm at Holmes Funeral Home, 400 Main St. Manchester. Funeral services will be on Monday, December 22, 2014 at 11 am at the funeral home followed by burial in East Cemetery, Manchester.
