"Joyce G. Don, 84, of Manchester, beloved wife of Richard S. "Dick" Don, passed away suddenly, with her family at her side, Saturday, May 14, 2016, at Manchester Memorial Hospital. Joyce was born May 10, 1932, in Flushing, Long Island, daughter of the late Morton and Blanche Gilday (nee Levitt). She and her family had resided in Manchester, Connecticut since 1963. Joyce and her high school sweetheart, Dick, celebrated 63 years of marriage. Joyce was a gifted teacher of English to generations of high school students, inculcating each one with her love of reading and writing. After 35 years of dedicated service at Manchester High School and Manchester Community College, she retired in 1992. Joyce loved to travel the world with her husband and also with her close friends, Sue and Gerry Hardy of Manchester. She was a gifted raconteur, with an appropriate story for any occasion. In addition to her husband, Mrs. Don is survived by Lea Stein and her husband, Michael, of Agawam, Mass., Judith Don and her husband, Mitch Bayersdorfer, of Redwood City, California; two granddaughters: Lindsey Labecki and Rachel Bayersdorfer. A casual gathering of friends to share memories of Joyce will be held at 10:30 a.m. this Friday, May 20th at The Arbors of Hopbrook, 403 West Center Street, Manchester.
