Joseph Edward Deganne, age 89, formerly of Manchester, CT, beloved husband of Barbara (Jackson) Deganne, died peacefully on January 12, 2015 in Hartford, CT. He was born in Framingham, MA on June 23, 1925. Raised and schooled in Holliston, MA, Joe would enter the US Navy at age 17. Joe was an extremely proud of his efforts to assist our country during World War II. Young and brave, he started on the newly commissioned Bache Destroyer in the North Atlantic as a submarine hunter in 1942. Joe's time served, also included two years on the newly commissioned USS Sargent Bay Carrier. After completing his military service, Joe relocated to Manchester, CT where he and Barbara would marry and reside for over sixty years. In 1945, Joe's career at Pratt & Whitney commenced spanning 38 years where he became a supervisor in the VTL Machinery Department in East Hartford. During his years at Pratt & Whitney Joseph finally had the long awaited opportunity to fulfill his high school graduation requirements. Ever so handy, Joe would stay busy after his retirement as a handyman/property manager for various apartment buildings for more than 10 years. While he enjoyed working around his own home, he was a great help to many of his neighbors, assisting with the upkeep of their homes too.
Without any doubt Joe's greatest source of joy was his wife and their children. He idolized each and every one of them, spending countless hours planning ahead for all of their lifelong needs.
In addition to his wife, Joe leaves his cherished daughters, Marie Keeney of Ellington, CT, and Nancy Hindson and her husband Tom of South Windsor. His devoted granddaughters will also miss him greatly, Jennifer Keeney Horan, Kristen Hindson Cashman, and Chelsea Hindson. Having nurtured such a loving family, Joe received the ultimate gift of four great-grandchildren, Ainsley and Marshall Horan, and Shayla and Dylan Cashman, to spoil and enjoy in his last years.
Predeceased by his father Joseph DeGanne and his wife Winifred Augusta (Lee) DeGanne, he also leaves to mourn his passing four sisters, June Fabrizio, Betty Klobucher, Shirley Stone, Helen Stanley, and one brother, David DeGanne. Joseph also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews.
