John 'Jack' Wojnarowski

John "Jack" Wojnarowski, 85, of Manchester, loving husband of the late Eleanore "Ellie" (Komosinski) Wojnarowski passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 24, 2018 at Manchester Memorial Hospital. Jack was born on August 17, 1932 in Waterbury, CT, son of the late John and Regina (Wozniak) Wojnarowski. He was a Corporal in the US Army stationed in Germany during the Korean War. He was a graduate of the University of Connecticut School of Engineering, where he earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering. Jack was employed for over 32 years at Hamilton Standard in the Space & Sea Systems Division. Some of the highlights of his career (at least the ones he was able to talk about) included working on and designing space suits, the re-entry system for the space shuttle, and zero-gravity flush toilets. After the space shuttle was completed, he along with select others involved in the design of the shuttle, were invited by NASA to view the launch at Cape Canaveral. His engineering expertise also found him creating design solutions for system issues and improvements on atomic submarines and aircraft carriers all over the world. Jack was an avid military history buff and enjoyed fishing, especially fly fishing, being outdoors, reading and crossword puzzles (and he did the puzzles in ink!!!). To keep his mind sharp, he routinely solved trigonometry, calculus and physics problems. Jack is survived by his five children; Susan Wojnarowski, Kenneth Wojnarowski and his wife Susan, Karen Wojnarowski, David Wojnarowski and Patti Wojnarowski and his four grandchildren; Shawn, Adam and Emma Wojnarowski and Eric Ostrowski and his wife Sandra. Funeral services and burial in East Cemetery Manchester are private. There are no calling hours. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
