John B. Toomey

John B. Toomey, 89, of Vernon, CT formerly of Bolton, CT passed away Saturday, December 16, 2017. John was born in Hartford, CT May 2, 1928, son of the late Warren Marsh and Maud (Floyd) Toomey.

John attended Suffield Academy where he was the President of the Class of 1946, editor of their yearbook and was Captain of their varsity football team. He enlisted in the United States Army Air Force in 1948. He was Honorably Discharged in 1952, as a Staff Sergeant. John worked for Pratt & Whitney for 33 years, retiring as a foreman in 1985. John and his beloved wife Violet were married in 1963 and resided in Bolton until 2007, when they moved to Vernon.

Besides his parents he was predeceased by his loving wife of 54 years, Violet (Finn) Toomey, and two brothers, Warren M. Toomey, Jr., and Robert F. Toomey. John is survived by his loving family; son, John B. Toomey Jr. and his spouse, James Dwire of Bolton, daughter, Darlene L. Boyd of Coventry, son, Ralph Daniel Decker and his wife, Debby of Gadsden, AL, five grandchildren, Ralph Daniel Decker Jr., Kristy Lynn Decker, Brian James Decker, Kevin Forrest Boyd, Cody Lynn Boyd, and five great-grandchildren. "Uncle Jack" is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and their families and many, many friends.

Family and friends may call Wednesday, December 20, 2017 from 4:00-7:00pm at Manchester Funeral Home, 142 East Center Street, Manchester, CT. Funeral services will be held at 11:00am on Thursday, December 21, 2017 at Bolton Congregational Church, 228 Bolton Center Road, Bolton. Burial will follow in Bolton Center Cemetery.
