John Irven Thompson

John Irven Thompson was born on February 21, 1955. John went to be with the Lord on October 20, 2023. He is survived by his wife, Deborah (Corey) Thompson, married for forty-four years, and his three children, Benjamin (Stephanie), Loren Grout (Kaitlin), and Rachel Hurley (Joseph). He left seven grandchildren: Dylan, Autumn, Emma, Natalie, Liam, Cooper, and Hunter. John graduated from Syracuse University and worked in Engineering and Aerospace Design at Pratt & Whitney for 47 years. John loved all types of music, and his favorite artists were The Beatles and The Eagles. He especially enjoyed classical music. He played the piano and guitar and sang in the church choir. Before choosing his major in Engineering at Syracuse University, John wanted to be a concert pianist. John attended Crossroads Community Cathedral (formerly First Assembly of God) with his family in East Hartford, CT. He sang in the church choir for over 30 years and acted and sang in several fine arts productions, including The Passion Play, The Richest Man in the Valley, The Passion of The King, and Pillars of Fire. He loved his family, food, Star Trek, Star Wars, space/NASA, the Peanuts characters, and all things Beatles. His hobbies were reading (history, JFK, political science) and building models of space rockets, the space shuttle, lunar modules, and the Enterprise. A Celebration of Life service will be held at Crossroads Community Cathedral, 1492 Silver Lane, East Hartford, CT on Thursday, October 26th, at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Crossroads food pantry or the American Heart Association.
