John Phillip Shrider, 81 of Manchester, loving husband for fifty-nine years of Julia A. (Hayes) Shrider, died Saturday, January 31, 2015 at Hartford Hospital after a short illness.
Phil was born in Zanesville, OH, on November 3, 1933, son of John W. and Josephine (Stotts) Shrider. He was raised in Ohio and graduated from Zanesville High School and Ohio State University with a BS Degree in Geology. He served as a Lieutenant in the US Navy and he and his wife have been residents of Manchester since 1963. Prior to retiring in 2004 Phil had been the owner and operator of the former Shrider Fluid Power Company in Manchester for over forty years. He was a longtime and active member of the Concordia Lutheran Church in Manchester and was a longtime member of the Masons, Shriners, and other Masonic groups and organizations.
With his wife Julia he is survived by two sons and a daughter, Stephen H. Shrider and his wife Denise of Roscoe, IL and their children Matthew (his daughter Paisleigh), Phillip, and Stephanie; Gregory J. Shrider and his wife Heidi of Mount Airy, MD and their children Jeffrey and Courtney; Julie A. Roy and her husband Allen of Myrtle Beach, SC and their children Rachel and Reagan. Phil was predeceased by his son, Jeffrey P. Shrider and two brothers, Charles M. Shrider and Stratford W. Shrider.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 7 at 11:00 AM at the Concordia Lutheran Church, 40 Pitkin Street, Manchester. Burial will follow in the East Cemetery in Manchester. There are no calling hours.
