John J. "Satch" Schaschl, 89, of Manchester, CT, husband of the late Janice M. Schaschl, quietly passed away on Thursday, August 20, 2015. He was born on May 2, 1926 in Hartford, CT to Ferdinand and Ursula (Trackig) Schaschl. He was a resident of Manchester for more than fifty-five years. John was a Navy veteran of World War II serving aboard the U.S.S. Bon Homme Richard CV-31. He also was a Seabee veteran of the Korean conflict. After his discharge from the service, John started his employment with the Hartford Electric Company (HELCO) and retired from Connecticut Yankee Atomic Power Company in 1988 after 40 years of service. John was a life member of the Seabee Veterans of America as well as a life member of the Army-Navy Club. John was also a member of V.F.W. Post #2046 and American Legion Post #102 as well as the Connecticut Yankee Retirement Club. John is survived by his daughter, Agnes "Aggie" Schaschl of Manchester; his daughter and son-in-law Katherine S. Johnson and Dave of Salem, Oregon; his two grandsons Ian and Clayton Johnson; his two sister-in-laws, Sally Chouinard of Canton, and Anne Horvath of Kennebunk, ME; several nephews and nieces; many wonderful and caring neighbors; and the family dog, Murphy. John was a very humble man who always had a kind word and a smile for everyone he came in contact with. His simple values were to treat everyone he came in contact with respect. He always had a positive outlook on life which left a lasting impression on those who were lucky enough to cross paths with him during his life. There will be no calling hours. A graveside service with military honors will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 3rd at John's gravesite in Section F Westminster in East Cemetery, 220 East Center St., Manchester, CT. Everyone is welcome to attend. The family would like to express their deep appreciation and gratitude to the staff at Manchester Memorial Hospital, especially RN Erin L., who was such a comforting presence during a difficult time.
