John M. Risley

John M. Risley, 82, of Tolland, loving husband of 37 years of Linda (Lathrop) Risley passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 5, 2017. John was born on December 3, 1934 in Willimantic, son of the late Clifford and Evelyn Risley. He was a proud veteran of the Korean War, serving his country in the U.S. Army. Prior to his retirement in 2009, John was owner and President of the John M. Risley Insurance Agency in Vernon for over 45 years. A very respected businessman in the community, he was known for always being ready to reach out with a helping hand. In 2005 he was presented with an official citation from the State of Connecticut recognizing his 48 years in the insurance industry as a leading independent agent in Tolland County. Risley was a longtime member of the United Congregational Church of Tolland, served as President of the Lions Club of Vernon, was a member of the Tolland Chamber of Commerce, and a coach for Vernon Junior Midget Football. In addition to his wife Linda, John is survived by his son Michael D. Risley, his two daughters Dena Lyn (Risley) Saunders and her husband Daniel Saunders, and Amy Lyn (Risley) Small and her husband Jason Small, his grandson Justin Risley, his granddaughter Georgia Lyn Small, a nephew Steven Lathrop, and his beloved Golden Retriever Jackie. A memorial service will be celebrated Tuesday April 11th at 11:30am at the United Congregational Church of Tolland, 45 Tolland Green, Tolland, CT 06084. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Tolland Fire Department or the United Congregational Church of Tolland.
