John L. Plaster Sr. 99, of Tolland, formerly of Coventry, beloved husband of the late Josephine (Strack) Plaster died peacefully on Monday, May 7, 2018 at Woodlake at Tolland. He was born on May 26, 1918 in Patrick County, VA son of the late George and Mary (Martin) Plaster. John, a veteran of WW II, proudly served his country in the U.S. Army. Prior to his retirement he was a skilled upholsterer known throughout the greater Hartford area. John is survived by his two sons; John L. Plaster Jr. and his wife Vicki of Vermont and North Carolina and Robert Plaster and his wife Nancy of Coventry, his daughter Benitta Morgan and her husband William of Ellington, four loving grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; Melissa Morgan-Hostetler, her husband John Hostetler and their sons; Jack, Douglas and Derek, Joanna Morgan, her husband Rino Ouellet and their children Alex and Emily, Benjamin Plaster, his wife Ashley and their sons Weston and Beckham, and Meghan (Plaster) Pollack, her husband Brett and their daughter Riley. He leaves behind his sister Eldean Martin of Patrick Springs, VA, many nieces and nephews, especially Doris and Linda, and two very special people in his life Ronald Morgan and Debbie Levitsky. He is also survived by his wife's loving cousins Pat and Bill Travers and Emily O'Brien. John, known as "Poopa", was the cornerstone of his family. Always their greatest fan, he loved watching his children and grandchildren play sports. His home was the hub of numerous family gatherings, wonderful meals, much swimming and laughter; and his treasured family stories were threaded through our lives. Besides being with his family, Poopa's favorite pastimes were family poker games and going to the casino (his last trip being just 3 months ago). At Woodlake he played bingo every chance he could, and he always won. The staff at Woodlake became part of John's extended family. They treated him with loving care, and he developed many warm friendships there. The family is deeply grateful to all who touched his life. A special thanks to his adored Albelin, Beth (his "Queenie"), John G. his story swapping buddy, and his very special nurses Amy (who was always there for him), Joanne, Jessica, and Julie. John was predeceased by his loving wife, Josephine, his grandson, Robert, his brothers Cecil, James, Cliff, and Harvey, and his sisters Ethel, Christine, and Gladys.
