John William Lahda Jr., age 85, passed away peacefully on April 30, 2024, in Rocky Hill, CT. Born on February 26, 1939, in Daisytown, PA, John led a life marked by dedication, service, and the joy of active pursuits.
John graduated from California High School and soon after embarked on a career that showcased his strong work ethic and commitment to his community. He spent many years at Cushman Industries before finding his calling as a Correctional Officer at York CI, where his firm but fair approach earned him the respect of colleagues and inmates alike.
A proud Army veteran, John served his country for three years full-time and continued his service in the National Guard for 25 years. His military service was a testament to his patriotism and strength of character.
John's zest for life was evident in his personal interests. An avid runner, he completed five marathons, demonstrating his perseverance and love for the sport. He also enjoyed the tranquility of nature, often going hunting and fishing, which provided him with precious moments of reflection and relaxation.
Family was the cornerstone of John's life. He was preceded in death by his father, John William Lahda Sr., his mother, Sarah Salain, his wife, Margaret and his son, Charles Lahda, who passed away in 2017. John is survived by his son, John William Lahda III, and his wife, Anna. He was a grandfather to John-Vincent Lahda, whose achievements filled him with immense pride.
A special shoutout is given to his nephew, Robert Sherman, and Robert's son, Jake, his great-nephew. John's bond with them was built on mutual respect and deep affection, and they will carry forward his legacy of integrity and kindness.
