John E. Hennessey, 93, of Manchester, beloved husband of Edna (Perine) Hennessey, passed away Sunday, September 3, 2017 at home with his family at his side. John was born in Hartford, July 27, 1924, son of the late William F. and Mary A. (MacElroy) Hennessey and was a lifelong Manchester resident. He proudly served his country as a Seaman First Class and Gunner's Mate with the U.S. Navy aboard the Battleship USS Iowa BB-61during WWII 1943-1946. He was employed at Pratt & Whitney Aircraft East Hartford for 32 years, retiring as a security guard in 1987. He was a member of the USS Iowa BB-61 Veteran's Association. John enjoyed tending to his gardens, especially his rose bushes which he gave extra care to and also, fishing with his friends on his boat named "The Trio". He was also an avid Red Sox fan and UConn Women Basketball fan. In addition to his wife, Edna, he is survived by three daughters, Linda M. Hennessey of Columbia, Margaret Phillips-LaMay and her husband, David of Vernon, Eileen Beaulieu and her husband, Gil of Lebanon, six grandchildren, Laura Phillips, Shane Phillips, Korrin Phillips, Nicole Maenza and her husband, Roc, Ben Beaulieu and his wife, Amanda, Kelly Zelinsky and her husband, Jason, eleven great-grandchildren, Brittani, Raymond, Jonah, Hannah, and Liam Phillips; Rocco and Coleson Maenza; Raelyn and Brody Beaulieu; Camryn and Morgan Zelinsky, and nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Rose and longtime friends, Ed Bars and his wife, Marge Bars. Special thanks to Hospice, Wound Center and the Emergency Dept., the staff at ECHN that took care of him, especially visiting nurse Donna and Meagan ER, Dr. Bernard, a special thanks to Dr. Dahhan and a heartfelt thanks to Whitney Showman Boyer PA-C. Funeral services will be Saturday, Sept. 9, 2017 at 11am at Watkins Funeral Home 142 East Center St. Manchester. Burial will follow with military honors in East Cemetery in Manchester.
