John T. Coburn, 92, of Glastonbury, formerly of Manchester and East Hartford, beloved husband of 66 years to the late, Ruth M. (Jarvis) Coburn passed away on Sunday, October 19, 2014. John was born on February 7, 1922 in Manchester son of the late Frank and Mary Coburn. He was raised in Manchester, attended local schools, was a graduate of MHS, Class 1941 and later graduated from Hillyer College in Hartford. John proudly served his country during WW II in the US. Navy, serving aboard the minesweeper USS YMS 163 in the Pacific Ocean. Prior to his retirement John was a plumber and member of Local #76 in Hartford for over 45 years. He thoroughly enjoyed watching his beloved Boston Celtics. He was an avid reader and loved working outdoors during his retirement and being in the sun. John is survived by his daughter, Mary Ann Stino and her husband, Ken of Glastonbury, his son, Timothy Coburn and his wife, Susan of Glastonbury and his daughter, Kathleen Coburn of East Otis, MA. He also leaves three loving grandchildren, Rebecca Teri-Savage and her husband, Bill, Adam Stino and his wife, Amy and Gabrielle Coburn and two great grandchildren, Mason and Lily Stino. In addition to his wife Ruth and parents Frank and Mary Coburn, John was predeceased by his sisters, Harriet Smith, Sr. Catherine Anne (Ellen) Coburn, Sr. Ellen Marie (Anne) Coburn and Joan Leonard and his brothers, Francis (Lyon) Coburn, Robert Coburn, Anthony Coburn and Richard Coburn. The Coburn family would like to express our appreciation to Anna who showed love and kindness to both Ruth and John during the last few years of their lives. Calling hours will be on Thursday, October 23, 2014 from 4-7 pm at Holmes Funeral Home, 400 Main St. Manchester. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, October 24, 2014 at 10:00 am at St. Dunstan Church, 1345 Manchester Road, Glastonbury. Burial with military honors will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery, Glastonbury.
