Joan Brown

Joan (Westbrooke) Brown 86, beloved wife and mother passed away on Monday, February 12, 2018, at Manchester Memorial Hospital. She was the daughter of the late Mildred and Clayton Westbrooke. Joan graduated from The Charles F. Gaugh School of Business and worked for several years in a law firm in Springfield as a legal secretary prior to marrying Horace Brown in 1955.
In 1956 they moved to Manchester, CT where they made their home for over 60 years. Once her children were grown she worked part-time as a secretary for a physician in Manchester and also was the registrar for the Manchester Road Race for many years. She was a member of Community Baptist Church and the Manchester Memorial Hospital Auxillary. Joan volunteered in physical therapy transport at Manchester Memorial Hospital and at her children's elementary school. She loved traveling and especially enjoyed the beach in St. Martin and on Cape Cod. She leaves her devoted family, her husband of 63 years, Horace H. Brown; her children: Judy Brown-DuPaul and son-in-law, George DuPaul of Macungie, PA, Clark W. Brown of Sturbridge, MA and Scott R. Brown and daughter-in-law Suzanne Brown of Manchester, CT; her grandchildren: Lonyka Brown, Jason DuPaul, Dylan Brown, Glenn DuPaul, Hannah Brown, Gianni Brown, Lucas Brown; and one great-grandchild, Mason Burby. The Brown family would like to extend their appreciation and gratitude to doctors, nurses and staff of Manchester Memorial Hospital. Calling hours will be held at Holmes-Watkins Funeral Home, 400 Main Street in Manchester, CT on Wednesday, February 14th from 5:00pm to 7:00pm. Funeral services will be at the funeral home on Thursday, February 15th at 11:00 am followed by burial in East Cemetery in Manchester. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that charitable donations may be given to Connecticut Baptist Homes, 292 Thorpe Avenue #1, Meriden, CT 06450 or to the Winding Trails Endowment, 50 Winding Trails Drive, Farmington, CT 06032.
