Jean Hultgren

June 20, 1929 — March 26, 2017

Jean Okerfelt Hultgren, 87, of South Windsor, CT, died peacefully early Sunday morning, March 26, 2017 following a brief illness.

She was born June 20, 1929 in Quincy, MA one of fraternal twins to George Aron Constantine Okerfelt and Florence Okerfelt (nee Hallstrom). She attended public grade school in Rocky Hill, CT and High School in both Wethersfield and Spokane, WA. She attended one year at Dean Junior College, Franklin MA. On May 6, 1950 she married Carl C. Hultgren of Manchester, CT and together they had three children Bradford Donald (1954), Philip Carlton (1956), And Cynthia Jean (1959). Jean was very active in her church Emanuel Lutheran in Manchester, serving for many years on the Altar Guild, singing in the choir and working to found the Ruth Circle. Jean was an accomplished knitter and needlepoint artist. She shared her talents with everyone, often donating her mittens and scarves to clothing drives for those in need. Jean loved to entertain and frequently hosted parties for family and friends. Jean and Carl lived at 131 Ferguson Rd. for 32 years in the house that they built, before moving to Crystal River, FL for 25 years. Jean moved to South Windsor after Carl's death in 2013. Jean was also predeceased by her twin sister, Marjorie O. Nelson and her niece, Susan N. Berzinis.

Jean is survived by her children Bradford, Philip and his wife Christine, Cynthia Hall and her husband Randall; two grandchildren, Crystal and Curtis.

A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday April 1, 2017, 11:00 a.m. at Emanuel Lutheran Church, 60 Church St. Manchester, CT with burial to follow in the East Cemetery in Manchester. There are no calling hours. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in the memory of Jean to the Creative Living Community of CT (CLCC), 60 Church St., Manchester, CT 06040. CLCC seeks to create a shared, inclusive living experience for individuals with and without developmental disabilities.
