Jane Franklin

February 13, 1928 — January 28, 2017

Jane Hahn Franklin, 88, of Manchester, CT, passed away peacefully on January 28, 2017 in Manchester following a short illness. She was married for 66 years to the late Robert H. Franklin (Bob). Born on February 13, 1928, in Hartford, CT, Jane was the daughter of Ray Lester and Elizabeth (Steer) Hahn. She was raised in Windham, CT, graduating from Windham High School in 1944 at the age of 16. She graduated from the University of Connecticut in 1948 with a BA in English. While at UConn she was a sister of Kappa Kappa Gamma and met the man she would later marry. In later years both she and Bob were avid fans of both the Women's and Men's Basketball teams and were proud of the winning records each accumulated.

A member of Center Congregational Church since 1964, she was active in the Women's Club and also a key supporter of the Scrip fundraising program at the church.

Jane (along with her husband Bob) was a strong presence in the summer community, Giant's Neck Beach, in Niantic, CT. The family cottage had been in the Hahn, then Franklin, families for over 70 years. Jane was noted for her diligence in caring for the clay tennis court for several decades, as well as serving as the Chairman of the Zoning Board of Appeals for the Beach Association, a responsibility for which her careful attention to detail helped

In Manchester, Jane served on the Board of the Lutz Junior Museum, supported Instructors of the Handicapped (IOH), Girl Scouts and PTA. Her hobbies included tennis, reading, gardening and bridge.
