James S. Taylor, 81, beloved husband of 58 years of Nancy (Pearson) Taylor passed away on Monday, April 2, 2018 with his family at his side at home. Jim was born on January 4, 1937 in Manchester one of six children of the late James and Margaret (Hall) Taylor. He was raised in Manchester, attended local schools and was a graduate of Manchester High School, Class of 1955. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force proudly serving his country from 1955 to 1959.Prior to retiring, Jim was a Police Officer for over 26 years with the Manchester Police Department. He was a longtime member of St. Mary's Episcopal Church in Manchester. Jim was a Past President and member of Council # 15 of A.F.C.M.E. and a Past President and coach of Manchester Little League and Manchester Midget Football. He was a 32nd degree Mason with Friendship Lodge #145 A.F.& A.M. as well as a member of the Sphinx Shriners. He was an avid New York Yankees and UConn Women's Basketball fan. Jim also loved every moment he spent at his second home in Stafford Springs at his Sun Valley Camp with his many cherished friends and family. In addition to his wife Nancy, he is survived by his four children; James Taylor of Manchester, Kelley (Taylor) Dubois and Jeff Jenkins of Manchester, Dan Taylor of West Minster, CA, and Edie (Ammon) DeSimone of Hartford, seven adored grandchildren; John Taylor, Taylor Dubois, Molly Dubois, Jane Taylor, Audrey Taylor, Jordan DeSimone and Brooke DeSimone, his brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Nancy Taylor of Manchester and several nieces, nephews and their families. In addition to his parents Jim was predeceased by his three sisters; Edna Maxwell, Jean Smith and Shirley Wilson and his brother David Taylor. Calling hours will be held at Holmes-Watkins Funeral Home, 400 Main St in Manchester on Friday, April 6, 2018 from 10am-12 pm with a service to begin at 12 pm at the funeral home. Burial with Military Honors will follow in East Cemetery, Manchester. Memorial contributions may be made to the D.A.V. or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
