James Szarek

James Szarek (77) of Evergreen Road in Manchester, CT died peacefully Friday, January 16th at Manchester Memorial Hospital under hospice care. Jim graduated from Tufts University in 1958 with a BSME. He retired from his job as Process Certification Manager at Pratt & Whitney Aircraft in 1998 after 37 years of service. Jim was very active in the Boy Scouts of America with about 30 years as Cub Master and Committee Leader of Pack 53 at Waddell School in Manchester and about 35 years as Scout Master, Chairman and High Adventure Leader of Troop 27 at St. Mary's Episcopal Church in Manchester. Jim also graduated from the Manchester Citizens Police Academy and proudly served the community in the activities of the C.V.C. group (formerly C.I.T.E.) and the Blue Angels for several years. Jim loved the outdoors, camping, hiking, canoeing, white-water rafting and traveling with his family. Son of Michael "Pat" and Estelle (Broulliard) Szarek (both deceased) of Grafton MA, Jim leaves behind his loving wife of 53 years, June (Plouffe) Szarek, his children Major William (deceased) and wife Michele Szarek of Coldbrook, NY, Kenneth and wife Patricia Szarek of Tolland, Kathleen and husband James Dawson of Vernon and John and wife Judy Szarek of Huntingtown, MD. He also leaves his siblings, Dorothy and husband Henry Heney and Thomas and wife Linda Szarek all of Northbridge, MA as well as numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. Friends may call at Watkins Funeral Home, 142 East Center Street, Manchester on Thursday, January 22nd from 4-8pm. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at Saint Bridget's Church, 80 Main Street, Manchester on Friday, January 23rd, at 10:30am. James will be laid to rest at Saint James Cemetery, 360 Broad Street, Manchester.
