James T. King Jr

November 21, 1919 — October 6, 2015

James T. King Jr., 95 of Manchester, loving husband for fifteen years of Florence (Johnson Smith) King and husband of the late Mary (Mikolonis) King, died Tuesday October 6, 2015 at his home after an extended illness.
He was born in Philadelphia, PA on November 21, 1919, son of James T. and Anna (Cobb) King. He has been a Manchester resident since 1937, graduated from Manchester High School Class of 1938, and was a graduate of the University of Connecticut. He retired from Kaman Aerospace of Bloomfield in 1977 as vice-president after twenty-five years with the company.
Jim was a combat veteran of World War II, serving with the 1st Marine Division in the South Pacific including Guadalcanal and Peleliu, and a combat veteran of the Korean War, serving with the 2nd Marine Division. He was a member of the 1st Marine Division Association, the Marine Tankers Association, American Legion Post 102, Veterans of Foreign Wars #2046, and the Manchester Army-Navy Club. Jim was also a member of Masonic Lodge #73, the Tall Cedars of Lebanon, and the Manchester Country Club as golfing was his passion. James was a jokester and loved to sing his songs, especially to his wife Florence.
Besides his wife, he is survived by a brother, Robert King of Sonoma, CA, his step-children, Barry Smith of St. Augustine, FL, Karen Smith of Manchester, Craig Smith and his wife Laury of Manchester, and several nieces and nephews. Jim was predeceased by a son, James T. King III.
A special thank you to Caring Hands of the Visiting Nurse and Health Services of Vernon, and especially to caretaker Bright Menuah, for the care and support in the family's time of need.
It was James wish that there be no calling hours. Burial with military honors will be at the convenience of the family in the East Cemetery in Manchester. Memorial contributions may be made to the CT. Humane Society or St. Judes Children's Hospital.
