James A. ''Jim'' Bell

May 8, 1931 — April 19, 2015

James A. "Jim" Bell, 83, of Manchester, beloved husband of 56 years to Margaret (Donnelly) Bell died peacefully on Sunday, April 19, 2015. Jim was born on May 8, 1931 in Augusta, Maine son of the late Roy and Jessie (Wilson) Bell and had been a resident of Manchester since 1955. He was a veteran of the US Army serving in the 82nd Airborne as a paratrooper during the Korean War. Jim began his career working at Pratt & Whitney Aircraft and later was employed for the Department of Defense as an Auditor for over 30 years. He was a member of the American Legion Post #102, the V.F.W. and the D.A.V. He was also a member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees. Jim was an avid Duckpin bowler and enjoyed spending time outdoors. In addition to his wife Margaret, he leaves his son, Jeffrey Bell and Anne Garrity of Bristol, his daughter, Colleen MacElhiney and her husband, Scot of Glastonbury, three grandchildren, Trevor Bell of Florida and Casey and Kelley MacElhiney both of Glastonbury, his brother, Jack Bell and his wife, Mary of Bangor, Maine and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Jim was predeceased by two brothers and two sisters. Calling hours will be on Thursday, April 23, 2015 at Holmes Funeral Home, 400 Main St. Manchester from 6-8 pm. Private burial with military honors will be in East Cemetery, Manchester. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, PO Box 417005, Boston, MA 02241-7005.
