James P. Cooney

James P. Cooney, 78, of Manchester, formerly of Manhattan, NY died on Sunday, September 27, 2015 at Hartford Hospital after an extended illness. He was born on January 12, 1937 in Whitestone, NY son of the late Daniel P. and Margaret (Feeney) Cooney. Jim was a veteran of the US. Army serving his country from 1960-1963. Prior to his retirement he was employed as a history teacher in the city of New York. Jim loved studying history, telling a good joke, traveling and most of all returning to his beloved Manhattan. Jim is survived by his brother and sister-in-law, John and Janet Cooney of Manchester, his two sisters; Madeline Murgolo of West Palm Beach, FL and Frances Donnelly of Rockport, MA and numerous loving nieces and nephews and their families. In addition to his parents he was predeceased by a sister, Margaret Ricklefs and a brother, Daniel Cooney. Funeral services and burial are private. There are no calling hours.
