Jacqueline Joyce (Bartman) Reilly, 97, of Manchester, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 14, 2022. Jacqueline was born October 27, 1924, in Hartford to Benjamin and Margaret (Evans) Bartman, the third of five daughters. Jacquelines sense of volunteerism and love of her country first evidenced themselves in her teens. At the age of 20, she was awarded the Civilian Defense Award from the Connecticut War Council for 1000 hours of volunteer service during WWII. Her deep patriotism and commitment to service remained constant throughout her life. In 1947, Jacqueline began working for the state of Connecticut and worked her way up to the Department of Finance and Control. It was there she met her future husband Frank J. Reilly; they married in 1960. After 27 years of service to the state, Jacqueline retired in 1974. After retirement, Jacqueline continued to put her finance skills to good use. She and Frank were "counters" for Center Congregational Church of Manchester for many years. In 1990, she joined the Order of the Eastern Star and served as treasurer for Temple Chapter No. 53. In the late 1990s, Frank was diagnosed with Alzheimer's Disease, and Jacqueline devoted herself to his care until his passing in 2000. She then found an outlet with the Manchester Senior Center and was both an active participant and ready volunteer. She especially loved line dancing and exercise classes with her dear friend Rita Kopecki by her side. Family was precious to Jacqueline, and she treasured time spent with her sisters, whether shopping, going to the casino, reminiscing about their childhood on South Street, or holiday gatherings. Jacqueline Reilly was a strong, fiercely independent, generous woman who exemplifies a life well-lived. She will be deeply missed. The family is beyond grateful to the staff of Harbor Chase, her aides from The Key, and Visiting Nurse & Health Services Of Vernon/Connecticut for their professional and compassionate care of Jackie these past 10 months. In addition to her parents and Frank, Jacqueline was predeceased by her sisters Shirley Bartman, Beverly (Paul) Fazzino, Eunice (Samuel) Scharr, and Janice (John) Patrick. She is survived by her loving nieces and nephews: Margaret (Rocco) Mazzoccoli, Nadine Keane, Gregory Scharr, Paige (Andrew) Weinstein, John (Pamela) Patrick, Benjamin (Lisa) Patrick, and Jacqueline (Vincent) Forte, and their families. A funeral service will take place at Center Congregational Church in Manchester, Tuesday, August 23, at 10 a.m., followed by interment at Union Hill Cemetery in East Hampton.
