Herbert F. Zepp Jr. 101, of Manchester, beloved husband of the late Ruth H. (Bissell) Zepp died peacefully on Tuesday, May 2, 2017 at Manchester Memorial Hospital with his family at his side. Herb was born on April 13, 1916 in Elmira, NY son of the late Herbert F. Zepp Sr. and Flossie (Quinby) Zepp. He was a graduate of South Side HS, Class of 1936 and went on to graduate from the Aviation Ground School in 1938. Herb was employed with Pratt & Whitney Aircraft as a Test House Operator and later transferred to the Service Department as a Field Services Rep in 1941. He was assigned to various locations around the United States and held several managerial positions for UTC until retiring in 1977. Herb was very involved in and was a longtime member of Center Congregational Church in Manchester. He served two terms as a Church Deacon, taught Sunday School and was a Church Usher for many years. He was supportive of his sons with the Boy Scouts of America and often attended overnight camp outs and was honored as an Order of the Arrow Member. Herb was a Freemason of the Uriel Lodge #24 AF & AM in Merrow CT. He was also a member of the Manchester Senior Citizens Center and spent much time in the woodworking shop. Herb was very active and continued to live independently in his home until April of 2017. He is survived by his three children: Herbert F. Zepp III and his wife Linda of Bluffton SC, Barbara Gray and her husband Gary of Coventry, and Paul Zepp and his wife Christine of West Simsbury. He is also survived by: six loving grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Herb's family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude for the love and compassionate care provided by Diane, Jenna and Alice who treated him with respect and dignity. The family is sincerely grateful to Dr. Korkmaz, Dr. Anwar, Dr. Wasserstein, Dr. Raynor, Dr. Brodie,Interim HealthCare, Masonicare services and the nurses and staff at Manchester Memorial Hospital. Calling hours will be held at Holmes Funeral Home, 400 Main St in Manchester on Sunday, May 7, 2017 from 1- 4 pm with a Masonic Service at 3:00 pm and a funeral service to begin at 4:00 pm. There will be a private burial at a future date in East Cemetery, Manchester. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Center Congregational Church, 11 Center St., Manchester, Ct. 06040.
