Herbert E. Hanson, 91, of Manchester, beloved husband of Peggy (Landon) Hanson passed away peacefully at home on January 3, 2023. "Herbie" as he was known to his family and friends was born on November 29, 1931 in Manchester, Connecticut. He attended Manchester Public Schools and served in the United States Army during the Korean War where he was stationed in Germany. Herbie was also a long-distance truck driver working for a number of trucking companies over the course of twenty-five years. He will be remembered by his family and friends for his contagious laughter, quick wit, and sense of humor. His home was his castle and his lawn was always meticulously maintained. He was also quite the handyman and mechanic. He could fix almost anything and was always available to family and friends with valuable advice. He was admired for his beautiful blue eyes and was more than once mistaken for Paul Newman. He never let his family forget it. He was also an avid sports enthusiast including football, basketball and more recently soccer. Herbie was a gentle man; he loved his wife and daughters and his extended family, which included his animals. Over a span of twenty-two years, he and his wife, Peggy fostered over fifty children in their home. He cherished his dogs and cats who will miss his attention and the table scraps he provided from dinner. He was a selfless man always putting family first. Over the years, he enjoyed many adventures with his recreational vehicles embarking on adventures throughout the United States and Canada. He is survived by his wife Peggy to whom he was married for over 67 years; his daughter, Holly MacDonald, of Bolton and her friend Richard Migliore; his grandchildren, Elizabeth Castro and her husband Michael of Manchester; his grandson, Jonathan MacDonald and his fiance, Kimberly Bruce of Bailey, Colorado and his longtime friend, John Legault also of Manchester. He will also be missed by his Chaplin family, nieces and nephews, and countless great friends. Herbie was predeceased by his sister, Lorraine Eldridge and his daughters, Marcia Hanson and Cynthia Levesque. The family would like to thank Herbs special caregiver, Kamille Gordon, for her compassion and care for Herb and Peggy during his final months.
