Henry W. Nelson, Jr. of South Windsor, CT died peacefully at home on Saturday July 23, 2016 surrounded by family and friends. He was predeceased by his loving wife Elda (Matchulat) Nelson, a sister and brother-in-law, Olga (Sis) and Albert Fromerth of East Hartford and sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law Gert and Bud Matchulat, Mildred and Raymond Miller, and niece Sharon Miller. Henry is survived by several dear cousins and loyal friends. Henry was born August 18, 1914 in Hartford, CT to Amy Violet (Stone) and Henry Nelson Sr. He graduated from Hartford Public High School in 1932, and began working full time at his grandfather's company, J.E. Stone Supply Co. in Hartford. He later became treasurer and then president of Stone Lamson Supply Co. where he worked from the 1940s until the mid-1970s with his uncle, Percy Stone. He married Elda in August, 1951 and moved to her family's farm in South Windsor. In retirement, Henry and Elda enjoyed volunteering at Mitchell House in Hartford where they taught industrial and decorative arts. They were members of Zion Lutheran Church and served as board members there. Henry and Elda both loved people, traveling, photography, gardening, and watching the seasons come and go on their farm. Henry will always be remembered as a favorite relative, kind and helpful neighbor and dear friend to those who knew him. The family would like to thank his caregivers Jozefa (Barbara) and Stefania for their tireless care for Henry in his last years of life. They would also like to thank his wonderful friends and extended family for their continued companionship, for sharing Henry's landmark birthday, and for staying loyally at his side to the end. Funeral services will be Wednesday, July 27, 2016 at 11 am at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church 112 Cooper Street Manchester. Burial will follow in East Cemetery Manchester.
