Helen (Syskowski) Diaz, 94 of Vernon, widow of Walter J. Diaz, died Friday August 25, 2017 at Rockville General Hospital after an extended illness.
Helen was born in New Britain on February 16, 1923, daughter of Stefan and Karolina (Drozd) Szyszkowski, was raised in New Britain, and graduated from New Britain High School. She proudly served in the US Navy during World War II, and prior to retiring had been employed by the former New York Telephone Company and the former Southern New England Telephone Company for over twenty seven years.
She is survived by her son and daughter, Richard J. Diaz of Vernon, Carol L. Dumas and her husband Richard of Manchester, and two grandchildren, Kristen McManus and her husband Donald of Meriden, and Gary Dumas and his fiance Karen Minor of Tolland. Beside her husband Helen was predeceased by four sisters and three brothers.
A private graveside service will be in St. Bridget Cemetery in Manchester. There are no calling hours. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
