Gustave A. "Gus" Senkbeil Jr., 89 of Manchester, loving husband for 53 years of Joyce E. (Ramey) Senkbeil, died Wednesday, June 29, 2016 at a local convalescent home.
Gus was born in Hartford on June 7, 1927, son of Gustave and Ida (Hills) Senkbeil. He was raised in the Hartford area and came to Manchester in 1964. Prior to retiring in the early 1990's he had been employed by the Hartford Courant newspaper for over fifty years.
He was a longtime member of the Talcottville Congregational Church, the former Redman Club, and a twenty-five year member of the Thomas Green Club at the Courant. He and his wife entertained residents of assisted living facilities and convalescent homes as members of "Just Us 'N Gus and the Cameo Club Variety Show." He was recently awarded a plaque of appreciation from the Cameo Club for his dedication to the organization.
With his wife, he is survived by a son, G. George Senkbeil and his significant other Julie Thurston of Negaunee, MI; a daughter, Janette K. McLaughlin and husband Donald McLaughlin of Bradford, ME; a step-son, James P. Loersch and wife Dorothy Hall of Bolton; three grandchildren, Andrew McLaughlin, Molly McLaughlin, and Dundee Benson; two great-grandchildren, Gracie Benson and Aedyn Ruggerio. Gus was predeceased by a step-son, Jay M. Loersch, and a sister, Dorothy S. Walters.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, July 17, 4:00 PM at the Talcottville Congregational Church, 10 Elm Hill Road, Talcottville, CT. A reception will follow the service.
