Gladys Mae White, 84, of Manchester was raised to eternal glory on December 20, 2015 in Manchester. Gladys was born on February 8, 1931 in Manchester, daughter of the late John S. and Elizabeth (Sinnamon) White. She was predeceased by her sisters Mary Wieczorek and Irene Tedford. She was raised in Manchester, attended local schools, and had been a lifelong resident. Prior to her retirement, Gladys was employed for many years as a bookkeeper for several companies in the Hartford area, including Pontiac Center in West Hartford and Meineke Car Care Center in Vernon. She was a lifelong active member of the Manchester Salvation Army Church, which was a very special part of her life. Aunt Glad was a member of the Songsters, participated in the band, and served as a Corps Secretary for almost 30 years. Her faith in Jesus Christ was expressed in her cheerful personality, tenderhearted ways, and "years of faithful and devoted service to the glory of God." Aunt Glad had a spirit of adventure and enjoyed traveling to different parts of the world including Canada, Bermuda, the Galapagos Islands, Ireland, Africa, and Australia. She is survived by her two nieces, Kim McCarthy of Woodstock, VT, and Elizabeth Wieczorek of Manchester; her four nephews, Ron Tedford of Sydney, Australia, Steve Tedford of Tolland, John Wieczorek of Bolton and Charlie Wieczorek of Lebanon; cousin Nancy McHale and her husband Bob of Redmond, OR; close friend Betty McCarthy of Manchester; and numerous grandnieces, grandnephews, and their families. There will be no calling hours. Funeral services will be at 11:00 AM on Monday, December 28, 2015 at the Salvation Army Church, 661 Main St. Manchester, followed by burial in East Cemetery.
