Gisela Scholtz Field, 75, of Vernon, beloved wife of the late Robert C. Field passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, July 4, 2017. Gisela was born June 7, 1942 in Bierbrunn, Slovakia, daughter of the late John and Maria (Ulbrich) Scholtz and has resided in Vernon for the past 35 years. She was raised in Manchester and graduated from Manchester High School. Prior to her retirement in 2008 she was employed as a Secretary at Illing Middle School in Manchester, where she made many friends during her 18-year career. Gisela was a long time member of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church. She enjoyed knitting and crocheting, but spending time with her grandchildren was her greatest joy. Mrs. Field is survived by her loving family -- her daughter Gisela Carlson and son-in-law Jamie and her grandchildren Ashley and Ben of West Hartford; her brother Walter Scholtz and his wife Ilse of Tolland; her sister-in-law Joan Scholtz of Vernon. She leaves her nieces Monica Pacheco and her husband Mark, Diane Madigan and her husband Scott, Katie Scholtz and partner Brian Grzelka, and nephew Robert Scholtz and his wife Christy, as well as many grandnephews and a grandniece. Besides her immediate family in Connecticut, Gisela was a caring stepmother and step-grandmother to Robert's family in New Jersey and New York. In addition to her husband and parents she was predeceased by her brother William Scholtz and his daughter Kimberly. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, July 11, 2017 at 10 AM at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, 112 Cooper St., Manchester. Burial will follow in East Cemetery. Family and friends may call Monday, July 10, 2017 from 4-7 PM at Holmes Funeral Home, 400 Main St., Manchester. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church.
